Welcome to Amanda’s Pet Portraits.

We live on a smallholding in Derbyshire with dogs, a cat,  chickens ,and lambs.  My passion for animals has combined with a love of art in the form of animal portrait painting.

My aim is to create unique "better than photograph" images which show the true personality of the animal. These are lovingly painted, usually in pastels, to express your pet's unique character.

Please contact me, using the form below,  if you'd like me to produce a portrait of your pet. All I need from you is a good photograph, but extra photos and a chat about the animal help a lot.

Prices vary - for example :  £ 80 for 10” x 8”, mounted, but the cost depends on the size of the picture and the medium used  (watercolour, oils, pastel, etc.) I ask for a deposit of £20 , with the balance due on completion. Postage depends on weight , size and delivery address. I will post outside the UK.

The picture comes with a cardboard mount in a cellophane envelope, allowing you to choose your frame to suit your personal taste.

A frame can be provided for an extra fee.

Please note my prices are very competitive. These pastel portraits normally cost double as they take 12-16 hours to complete.

Photograph Hints

​

Although I can work from one good photo , the style and quality of the photos you send me have a huge impact on the resulting pet portrait. 

As well as being in focus, it’s important that your pet is a large part of the image. Ideally , the pet is looking at the camera so that features like the eyes, nose and whiskers are clear. 

You are more than welcome to send further photos so I can be sure to get accurate colouring or other important details accurate. 

The Ideal Pet Photograph

It is very important that I have a clear photograph of your pet to work from. It is vital, as I have never met your pet and I really need to be able to see the eyes clearly and get the feel for the character of your pet.

Below is a link for taking photos of your dog, cat, horse or any other animal you would like painting. You may already have a photo that you want to use.  

​

A camera on your phone is fine - you don’t need any special equipment if you get the basics right. 

​

So, send a photograph that is clear, up close (fill the view finder with your pet, not your house or garden!) and is of a pose that is typical of your pet. To achieve this the guide helps you get the photo you want.

If you wish me to paint a portrait of your beloved one who has passed away I will work from the best photograph you have. 

​

I am happy discuss the background you prefer. Most people like an out of focus "blurred" background so the emphasis is on the animal. The colour of the background usually compliments the colour of the animal.
